The lead singer, Tracyanne, was the most charming bundle of nerves I've ever seen. Brilliant night. Didn't play for long though, short but sweet I suppose. Being there totally made me feel like I'd lost touch with "the kids" too, they were, er, "bookish" to say the least. Buy the CD!

http://www.myspace.com/cameraobscuraband

Check this shit out, yo. I made a mash-up. Missy Elliott's "Pass That Dutch" vs. Of Montreal's "Gronlandic Edit". It's great (well, I'm hardly going to say it's shit after I spent this afternoon on it, am I?).

Missy Elliot vs. Of Monstreal - Pass That Edit - http://www.sendspace.com/file/32f01m

I must be getting old

Two mp3s from two bands I'm enjoying today since I won't be near a computer til after the weekend (hallelujah). The first is from Camera Obscura, a Scottish band championed by John Peel. They have a female singer and make a very mellow, sweet noise. Album's out now if you buy those sorts of things.

Camera Obscura - Oh Margaret - http://www.sendspace.com/file/zxubhu

The second MP3 is from Tinydancers, a Sheffield band that sounds nothing like the Arctics. They're touring with The Feeling at the mo, but don't let that put you off. They have a wicked sense of humour (check out their two previous 7" releases at http://www.puregroove.co.uk - the sleeves feature the adventures of a cartoon tiger as he struggles to find fame) and a knack for creating catchy, foot-stompy type music.

Tinydancers - Bonfire of the Night - http://www.sendspace.com/file/oc99gr

I'll be seeing both of them in the next month or so, so look for a report on those. Jesus, this is the kind of music I'm getting excited about these days: I must be getting old.

Neu Rave?

I saw a flyer in Topman today for a "Neu Rave" night in Manchester.

Steady, I'm still waiting for the "Grindie" explosion to die down.

So... Yeah.

Hello all. This blog was created because I have lots of thoughts on music which usually get directed at people who have very little interest in what I'm saying. So I thought I'd do one of these proper blog jobbies and that way I won't bore everyone to death. I've never been very consistent with these sorts of things (you can check out the links on the right for proof) but I'm going to try my best with this one.

Honest.

Anyway, 2020musicmag will be updated this week (do check it out) either with a story about Green Day, Simon Cowell or 2pac. I haven't really decided yet.

Also, I don't want my first proper post to be crap so here's an mp3 of a song that's impressed me this week: "Reactor Party", the new single from SHITDISCO (you have to put their name all in captials, or something). I'm not going to do one of those blogs where there's endless links to the latest mp3s before they've even been recorded, because there are loads of them already, and a fine job they do too (bigstereo.net is a premium example). Instead I'll probably just post ones that I like, if I feel they should be listened to by other people. How considerate of me to advocate music piracy in such a way.

What's the song like? Er, it's your bog-standard indie-disco effort but it's not shit and there are a few "doo doo doos" going on, thus making it very catchy and difficult to get out of your head and it also apparantly impairs your ability to write sentences that aren't far, far too long.

SHITDISCO - Reactor Party: http://www.sendspace.com/file/saymkf

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://2020musicblog.blogspot.com/2006/10/so-yeah.html' title='So...
